June 2026 Recognitions

June is here and the topics are rolling in. As you have read in Sage’s post on last week, this month recognizes Men’s Mental Health. This topic touches on a serious matter. Though, all too often, it is commonly overlooked. Men are sought out to be strong-willed, protectors and providers who hide and suppress their feelings and emotions. When in actuality men are suffering at the same rates as women. It is often masked securely.

Also, in June, Flag Day. The holiday of Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag. It was first celebrated one year post the declaration of independence on June 14, 1777. Next year, June 14, 2027 will mark 250 years of commemorating the holiday of the United States Flag.

Juneteenth, officially recognized as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday observed each year on June 19. The day commemorates the final enforcement of emancipation in the United States and marks the effective end of slavery following the Civil War. Its name, first recorded in the 1890s, combines the words “June” and “nineteenth,” honoring June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas and announced the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation, ensuring freedom for the last remaining enslaved people in the state.

This year, Sunday June 21 is Father’s Day. This day is when we recognize fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures. Sons and daughters need their dads. Sons, so they will know and understand what type of man they could grow to become. Daughters, so they will choose the right man to be with once they are old enough to date. Those are just two minor examples. Fathers are an important part of any family. It is especially a difficult time to accept and realize that one day will end up living without one.
