Men’s Health is a big thing to look out for. If you love yourself and want to live a long full life, then go get a check up. June is observed for the health of Man. The importance of it is to catch early disease detection, mental health awareness for men and boys, and preventive care. It also encourages men to break the stigma around seeking help and prioritize regular checkups to address significant disparities.
“The Man of Health.” Come on now, no need to shut down! It is completely okay to talk about how you feel. No judgement. I know it can be hard for a man to talk about “feelings”. That is why there are a lot of men who are silent about this. They may not have the right support, or they may feel like a punk. Whatever the cause, it’s not right. Your father, brother, husband, or male bestfriend maybe going through something right now, and you have no clue what’s wrong. It is far too many men, that hide behind the toughness exterior. STOP, and ask yourself, “is he ok?” Men’s mental health is no joke. A man can seem like his life is going good for him, until he have a breakdown or worse, suicide. Yes, I said it. The highest form of suicide in men is believed to be by hanging. The top and most common reason is due to depression and anxiety. Men exhibit these challenges differently than women. While women become sad, men will show anger, irritability and substance abuse. Can you tell if a man in your life is going through something? Do you know how to help a man that is struggling with mental health? This is how. Listen without judgement, normalize vulnerability, and encourage small actionable steps. Let’s stop this pattern of men not being heard and ask the next man, HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
Men’s mental health is no joke, there are a lot of men struggling right now, and you may not even know it.
There are some men who have already did the unimaginable. . . ! ! !
Here are a list of black men who committed suicide. (The suicide rate for African Americans has increased dramatically over the past decade, with black men seeing the highest spike.)
*Ian Alexander, Jr., son of actress Regina King. He was a musician and DJ.
*Stephen “tWitch” Boss, he was a beloved entertainer. He was a contestant on the show, “So you think you can dance”. He ended being a guest DJ on a famous Talk Show, and then became the show resident DJ. He took his own life, by self-inflicted gun shot.
*Don Cornelius, the famous host and creator of the long running dance and music show. “Soul Train”. He was suffering from health problems as well as a recent divorce. Self inflicted gun shot.
*Chris Lighty, a well known hip hop manager who founded Primary Violator. He was also well respected and the most powerful figure in the hip hop business. Self-inflicted gun shot.
It’s many more, but this is just a few. Let’s beware of our men. Talk with them. Walk with them.
Men’s Mental Health………. Let’s get this under control.
Besides Mental Health, There are diseases that some men keep a secret.
Heart Disease and Cancer. Two of the highest cause of death in men.
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for men. It encompasses conditions like coronary artery disease, heart attacks, and heart failure. Reason for the disease is…. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and diabetes. To prevent it, have an active lifestyle, eat heart healthy food.
Malignant neoplasms (cancer) is another big thing that affects mankind. The most commonly diagnosed and deadly cancers include lung, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Reason…. Tobacco use, family history, and age. To prevent, have regular screening, avoid smoking, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Men who passed by this disease or cancer.
*Chadwick Boseman, kept his cancer to himself and his family. He battled colon cancer.
*Jerry Springer, also kept his cancer a secret. He had pancreatic cancer.
*Robin Williams, battled with Parkinson’s and a brain disorder called Lewy body dementia.
The challenges of men can be overwhelming. Men are said to be protectors, providers, and overall hardworking. But what about the men who know they are doing a lot but still have self doubts?
We, as men, need a break. A break to give our mind a vacation. As well as living healthy.
Life is here for you to “play”, and move forward. Many blessings to you, the reader.
