Black Music History – 01

104 years ago, today in 1922, Thomas Jefferson Edwards was born in Richmond, VA.

He grew to become known as an American singer/songwriter. Most famously known for recording “It’s All in the Game”. This track was actually released twice. Once in 1951, as a single, where it placed 18 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Then again in 1958 as a new version a part of an album titled under the same name. This time placing no. 1 on the same charts.

This made music history. Before Edwards, no other black musician has ever claimed the top spot. Tommy Edwards became the first Black/African American to top the U.S., U.S. R&B and the U.K. Billboard Hot 100.

I say, “congrats”. This act has surely paved the way for many musicians in the future.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, To You.
